Be Brilliant, Be Safe, Be Bright

It’s a topic no runner really likes to talk about, but always should. Especially with the recent events that has taken place… it’s runner safety. Sure we can do everything within our power to make sure we’re safe, but the reality is, nothing is ever guaranteed. It’s sad, but true. But we have to take a step back and ask ourselves, are we really doing everything we can to be safe?

Let’s take on a simple task, visibility. I know I am guilty as heck as running when it’s dark, or transitioning into nighttime, only to look down and realize that I am in the darkest colors ever, and I not very visible. Sure I don’t expect cars to jump the sidewalk and take me out, but they could. I also don’t like scaring people and risk getting peppered sprayed because they could not see me approaching.

Enter a simple solution. Reflective strips. The Brilliant Reflective Strips are made from 3M technology so you know you’re getting the real deal. In this particular case, I used the iron-on, and the stickers.

First up, was the iron-on. It was easy, using the included guide.

You could figure out the ideal spot for your strip, place down, paper towel on top, and iron on the suggested setting. As someone who does vinyl stuff on occasion, including iron-on, I definitely found some cons in the application. Mainly, just getting the right pressure, and it staying still. But at the end of it all, it was quick and remained secure, and most importantly, reflective.

For my non-iron proof (I feel like that’s a word) items, I used the stickers. Which could not be any easier. Like seriously, no one should have any sort of an excuse for not using these. Even if it just goes on a water bottle, because every bit of visibility you can get counts. I opted to add some to my watch band (I only did parts that were actually visible to save my precious strips), my Orange Mud Pack, back of my visor, and my bike helmet… bc I realized that has practically no reflective spots, just bright hot pink.

Overall I really enjoyed using the product and will definitely recommend it. In fact, I’m passing the remaining strips I have off to my brother to add to my nephew’s gear. Also, with a 30% off savings using code BRP30, I intend to buy extra to have on hand for my next Ragnar Relay… because this would be absolutely perfect to have on gear bags when you’re searching for your bag via headlamp lol.
